What are the main topics I will study for the qualification?

GCSE PE explores 4 main topic areas:

  • Applied Physiology – explore topics including specialised training, nutrition, injuries and biomechanics, as well as looking at how the respiratory, cardiovascular systems and energy systems function and respond to exercise.
  • Sports Psychology – discover how the brain is behind sports performance and how you can use psychological techniques to gain a competitive edge.
  • Sport in Society and Technology in Sport – learn about the huge impact that sport has on society, and why it is a multi billion pound industry. There are many fascinating topic areas including the role of sports organisations, technology in sport, drugs in sport, and sport’s relationship with business and the media.
  • Performing and Analysing your Own Sports Performance. – the practical element where you will perform and evaluate your sporting performances.

How will I be assessed in the subject?

Assessment:

  • 2 x 1¼hrs written exam (60{a6d30c8a62fcb64e523aef1a61d5dd552560e516c224da626f6e683ccd748591} Course).
  • Practical sports performances & performance analysis coursework (40{a6d30c8a62fcb64e523aef1a61d5dd552560e516c224da626f6e683ccd748591}).
