JOHN CABOT ACADEMY – ADMISSIONS 2017
GEOGRAPHICAL ZONES OF APPLICANTS HOME ADDRESSESS
The John Cabot Academy address had been geocoded (given X, easting, and Y, northing, geometrical earth coordinates) with the specific coordinates of the Academy main entrance to the school by South Gloucestershire Council.
When an application for a school place is made South Gloucestershire Council automatically geocode the applicant’s home address. This is done according to the address information recorded on the South Gloucestershire Gazetteer (address point).
Easting and Northing Coordinates are stored as 7 figure numbers representing tenths of a meter in order that they can be plotted on our graphical Information systems mapping systems.
When the student applications are generated into a file for transfer to John Cabot Academy the distance from the home address to the John Cabot Academy main entrance as a straight line is calculated.
The distance is calculated as a straight line (crow flies) to measure against a 4 mile radius from the John Cabot Academy, which is the process as published in our Admissions Policy criteria.
Zone A = Inside the 4 mile radius.
Zone B = Outside the 4 mile radius.
